I am no longer using this page to give the weekly update, instead please the weekly update will be included in the weekly homework assignments. If you want to see these please click on the homework category to the right.
Week Eight:
This week we are going to finish the notes on worldviews, and then we will move very quickly through the first 10 authors in American Literature. There will be a three quizzes this week over reading and notes. At least on of these quizzes will be unannounced.
Week Six:
Week six will begin with handing out progress reports. These need to be signed and returned Tuesday for a homework grade. After progress reports I will hand back the test that was taken last Thursday. However, our big objective this week is to review Huckleberry Fin. I plan to do this over Monday through Thursday and then we are going to have a quiz on Friday. Because this material will never make it onto a test I am going to count the quiz twice.
The students have an outline due tomorrow. I will return it quickly as they need to turn in the completed essay next Monday.
Keep encouraging the students to do their best, and pray for them as they have a lot to do.
Week Five
On Monday, by God’s grace, we begin week five. This is the last week before progress reports go out. This week we are going to finish our notes on The Last of the Mahicans, and then we will have a test on Thursday.
I also plan to have the students begin writing a short personal narrative paper. It is short easy assignment that will help them develop their writing and practice some of the skills we have been talking about in class.
Week Four
It is hard to believe we are four weeks into this year already. We are having a great time in American Literature so far, but now it is time to wrap up our studies in The Last of the Mahicans and MLA format.
On Monday I will give back the rewrite of the short essay from last week.
Also on Monday, I will also give out a list of questions to help the students review the summer read. Each student will have list of questions from one chapter of the book. They will need to answer in complete sentences and they will write up their answers and present them to the class on the subsequent days of this week.
Week Three
This week the students are going to write a practice bibliography. they will do this in part in the school’s new computer lab.
We will also finish our notes on themes in The Last of The Mahicans, and we will take notes on the major characters.
This week the students will receive back their written assignment from last week and they will need to rewrite it making the necessary mechanics corrections. This will be due 2 days after the papers are returned,
Week 2
I hope the Lord has given you a restful weekend.
This week there are two main objectives in American Literature:
1. We are going to finish learning about MLA formating.
2. The students will take notes on all the major characters in the book.
The students can expect a quiz anytime on the names of the characters.
Week One:
There will not be any major assignments due this week. Please keep up with the homework and expect a few pop quizzes over the summer reads and class notes.
